ROOM DESCRIPTIONS

Ofi is the Choctaw word for “dog.” Our people, Kalyn and Steve, are passionate animal lovers and simply wild about us, their four legged boys, Wegas and Ofi. We are extremely well mannered German Shepherds and will be 7 years old in November.

Topsy Room

One King bed in western themed room.

Topsy was Kalyn’s first horse, which gave birth to Star and Amigo. The room’s décor includes photos of Topsy, Star, Amigo and Kalyn and Steve’s grandparents riding horses as well as Cherokee Nation Chief Bill John Baker’s annual Trail Ride.

Wegas Room

Two Queen beds in German Shepherd themed room.

Wegas is Ofi’s twin brother and “Wegas” is a Creek word that means, “Stop that,” or “Knock it off.” Steve’s grandmother, Ruby Haynie, yelled at Steve and Danny so much telling them “Wegas” that they thought it was their names.

The west wall is decorated with pictures of Wegas and Ofi. The north wall is decorated with pictures of Sheba, Pecos and Annie, three German Shepherds from Kalyn’s childhood.

Apokni Room

Two Queen beds in grandmother themed room.

Apokni is the Choctaw word for grandmother. Grandmothers are the matriarchs of native families and generally so in most cultures. Our grandmothers were so important in shaping our values and who we are today. This room honors their memory.

Freedom Room

Two Queen beds in patriotic themed room.

Kalyn and Steve are politically active in tribal, local, state and national elections. This room is decorated with political memorabilia.

Warrior Room

Two Queen beds in veterans’ themed room.

American Indians serve in the military at a higher percentage than any other race in America. This room honors Steve and our family members who have served in the military. Photos include Kalyn’s Uncle Amos who fought at Iwo Jima, Uncle Bob who served in Korea, her father, Forrest Bell, who was a Navy Seabee in WWII, Steve’s father, Bim, who was in the Army Air Corps in WWII and Korea, Steve as a Jump Master, Steve’s late brother, Danny, who served in Vietnam and Steve’s son, Bo, who served in Desert Storm.

K-9 Unit

Two Queen beds in a police K-9 themed room.

Steve was shot in a drug raid and took early retirement from the Tulsa Police Department where he was a trainer for the K-9 Unit. This room has photos of Steve and his K-9 partners, Duke and Nick.

RESTROOMS

Nashoba

Nashoba is the Choctaw word for wolf. This bathroom is decorated in a wolf motif and contains a full size tub and shower combo, double sinks, washer and dryer.

Fatty

The Fatty bathroom is named in loving memory of Kalyn’s Welsh Spring Spaniel, Fatty, a rescue dog who came to her in Washington, DC via Colorado. The Fatty bathroom is decorated with photos of friends and family with their dogs. The dog shower curtain is an original creation by “Sew Sew by Jo Jo.” The company commissioned senior artisan, Jo Jo White to create this masterpiece. This bathroom contains a shower.

Achefa

Achefa is the Choctaw word for “wash.” This bathroom is decorated in a native theme and adorned with pictures of Kalyn and Steve’s family members. Kalyn’s grandmother, Nan, would be appalled to know that her image was the focal point of a bathroom, while Steve’s mother, Leda V, would find it humorous.

The shower curtain is an original creation by “Sew Sew by Jo Jo.” The company commissioned senior artisan, Jo Jo White to create this masterpiece.

Issi

Issi is the Choctaw word for “deer.” This bathroom is decorated in a deer theme and in memory of Kalyn’s pet deer, Issi, who was raised with Kalyn’s goats.

Forrest and Ginny were surprised to come home one day and find 10 year old Kalyn in the living room with a fawn! Kalyn said, “Some man came by and asked me if Forrest was home because he wanted to see if he wanted a baby deer.” Kalyn told him she was certain that Forrest would want the deer. She took the fawn and bottle fed Issi and raised her with the goats. Jodie was supposed to be watching Kalyn, but she never knew about the visitor or the deer until Forrest and Ginny came home. JoJo was not as good a babysitter as she claims!
